Inspiration - July 2020
When Stripe makes a change to their website, as they did in July with a colorful header animation, it usually gets copied on countless other websites. For good reason though, Stripe's attention to detail is second to none, and their new header is no exception. Be sure to try to Konami code on it!
Also in July, The New York Times' R&D team showed off some incredible photogrammetry techniques to help tell stories. The animation is smooth despite the level of fidelity in the 3D models, I think we'll see a lot more of this technique in the future.
We also saw some nice playful personal sites in July. It's nice to see people having fun and spending time on those delightful little details. They remind me of a great CSS-Tricks article by Sarah Drasner In Defense of a Fussy Website.
Chiara Luzzana – Sound Designer
Often audio in web design is an afterthought, however, on Chiara Luzzana's site, it is the foundation. The elements and transitions flow effortlessly with the audio.
Reconstructing Journalistic Scenes in 3D
The New York Times is using photogrammetry to create insanely detailed 3D environments. This showcase of the technique smoothly flies in and around them as you scroll down the page.
